Huisman and BMS Heavy Cranes kick-off production of 3,000MT ringer crane

Huisman, and the Denmark-based, BMS Heavy Cranes, inaugurated the manufacturing of their 3,000mt Ringer Crane with a ceremony at Huisman’s Czech production facilities. Delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2023.

This began with the ceremonial first welding of S690 steel with advanced robotic welding technology by Huisman. BMS Heavy Cranes was awarded the contract, by Huisman,  for the delivery of a 3,000mt Ringer Crane in early 2022, with an option for a second unit.

Huisman uses a robotic welding technology referred to as  ‘Wire & Arc Additive Manufacturing’ (WAAM), a subtype of metal 3D printing,  which is similar to conventional welding. This technique is used to make midsize-to-large complexly shaped components, with high grade tensile steel. A significant benefit of 3D printing is a significant reduction in delivery time, yet still at a cost that is competitive when compared to that of forgings and castings. It also brings a more consistent level of quality.

This  ringer crane’s setup is optimised for operations in the wind industry. It can lift 1,200mt up to 225m, and 3,000mt structures to reduced heights. This crane will prepare BMS Heavy Cranes for future generations of wind turbines, both on and off shore, and on floating foundations.

The crane being entirely electric reduces emissions and improves both energy efficiency as well as accuracy. This makes the crane suitable for use in the renewable energy industry.
