Leschaco Iberia, the Spanish branch of the logistics service provider Leschaco, has been certified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to act as an IATA cargo agent. This means that 14 out of the 24 countries where Leschaco has its own offices are now official IATA cargo agents.

“We are committed to providing our customers with the highest level of service quality and safety standards,” said Oliver Kaut, Head of Global Product Management Airfreight.

“With the IATA approval, we are expanding Leschaco Iberia’s business and now have a fully certified process for our customers’ airfreight shipments,” added Mathias Reiser, Managing Director of Leschaco Iberia.

IATA is an aviation association that comprises 400 strategic partners in aviation and 300 airlines. These airlines cover 82 per cent of the world’s air passenger and cargo traffic. By being part of this network, Leschaco Iberia has become an IATA cargo agent, enabling it to dispatch air cargo shipments directly, quickly, and on time to meet the specific needs of its customers. This also allows Leschaco Iberia to coordinate the loading and unloading of air cargo, collect freight, and handle customs formalities. IATA cargo agents can issue important documents on behalf of airlines, such as air waybills (AWBs), and they have access to the e-freight project that aims to digitize the industry, including the creation of electronic air waybills (e-AWBs).

IATA’s responsibilities include setting uniform tariffs and conditions and standardizing processes in international air transport. The association has established worldwide standards for safety, handling, and processing. IATA declares companies that meet certain requirements as agents. Apart from demonstrating their financial capacity and professional competence, IATA cargo agents must regularly train their employees in the proper handling of dangerous goods.
