International freight forwarder Fracht AG has recently taken high-voltage substation equipment to the sky. The company collaborated with Hitachi Energy to move 64 tons of equipment from Switzerland to the United States.

The loading of the equipment took place at Zurich Airport, where Fracht were greeted by the Antonov Airlines AN-124-100M, the world’s largest production transport plane. This aircraft was prepped for its transatlantic flight from Zurich, Switzerland to the Los Angeles World Airports LAX airport in the USA, carrying vital equipment for energy infrastructure.

Hitachi Energy said that the 64 tons of equipment, consisted of twelve bays of Hitachi Energy’s gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). Manufactured in Switzerland, Hitachi Energy’s high-voltage GIS – which controls and protects the network from power outages and facilitates reliable electricity supply – was at the heart of this operation. Designed and manufactured for a project in the USA, the GIS will be crucial to the state’s energy infrastructure. Compact and metal-encapsulated, the GIS ensures safe operation even in confined spaces.
