20 years of experience at 27, that is what we could take away from the conversation with Simon Højgaard Ryesberg, Project Manager at UPF Group. At 27, he has been exposed to the shipping industry from a very young age due to family ties to the market.

This ties in well with the philosophy of Thomas Vestergaard who launched UPF Group as CEO and Co-founder at the start of this year, to give the freedom to the young and bright minds and fresh ideas.

“My family has ties to the shipping industry, especially the port of Aarhus in Denmark,” he says. It was his family who helped him get started in the industry, moving from a trainee, to a shipping assistant, to a key account manager and now to a project manager.

His current job entails managing around 15 clients, which covers anything from sales to project planning and execution. “Every day starts with a coffee,” he adds, but the majority of his working hours are spent at the computer.

However, it is not just drinking coffee and sending emails, the job is more like juggling with 10 balls, but never the same.

Seeing things grow

Even at 27, Ryesberg has seen the everything getting bigger, especially in the wind industry. It is something he expects to continue in the future with the addition of becoming greener. “Also, for carriers, it will be much more operated by robots and less people, I don’t know how I feel about that. For me logistics is a ‘people’s business’, meaning that relations are everything.

However, he is fully behind things getting greener and more sustainable.
