DP World has recently opened a new freight forwarding office, which is one of more than 100 such offices worldwide. This move is aimed at providing support to customers who are facing challenges while navigating the complexities of global trade. In response to various disruptions to global trade caused by climate change, geopolitics, and macroeconomic challenges, DP World has taken an ambitious initiative to strengthen its commitment to its customers.

Businesses are increasingly focusing on developing dynamic strategies to build resilience in their supply chains due to the disruptions caused by global trade. According to research conducted by Economist Impact, the traditional asset-light freight forwarding model, which involves moving cargo through third parties, has proven to be vulnerable to disruption at key chokepoints. This can have significant knock-on effects on inventory and fulfilment planning for both businesses and their customers.

In light of businesses seeking more control over their supply chains, DP World’s expansion comes at a crucial time for the global logistics and supply chain industry. DP World will be expanding its freight forwarding services, with a particular focus on air and ocean freight. This expansion will allow DP World to utilize their range of services, such as ports, terminals, warehouses, trucks, rail, and shipping services, to increase control and resilience. The company will also be using its proprietary digital technology to improve efficiency.

Additionally, DP World will be collaborating with complementary partners across the supply chain to further increase efficiency. Miami is the latest office to open its doors, as DP World builds on its end-to-end network of high-value port assets and specialist expertise across ports, trucking, air and ocean freight, customs and warehousing services that span over 430 business units in 86 countries.

Beat Simon, Group Chief Commercial Officer, Logistics at DP World, said, “Our expansion in freight forwarding complements our end-to-end supply chain solutions and capabilities. Our asset–appropriate approach is a step-change for the freight forwarding industry that puts customers in the driving seat with more visibility and control and gives them confidence to trade in today’s global market.”

“As we continue to grow our freight forwarding footprint, we are building a network that will cover more than 90% of global trade. We are focused on densifying our network as we build a best-in-class, strong and resilient global capability,” SImon added.

DP World provides a comprehensive range of services that cover the entire logistics process. These services include managing orders and shipments, handling goods at ports for both air and ocean transport, and providing customs, drayage, logistics, last-mile delivery, deconsolidation, and bonded warehousing services at the destination. DP World also offers a range of value-add services, such as embedded trade finance, commodity-specific services, cars in containers, transload, advanced hubs, and more.

Marco Nazzari, VP Commercial Freight Forwarding at DP World said, “Our freight forwarding service uses our proprietary digital technology solutions to simplify global trade for our customers and give them more control. However, it’s not just our digital solutions that offer a next-gen freight forwarding service: our people are foundational to our customers’ success. We employ over 1,000 team members and will continue to grow.”
