Danser Group Transports materials for construction of a new De Vlaamse Waterweg bridge in Belgium

The Danser Group, a Dutch multimodal operator and logistics solution provider, has delivered the first batch of project cargo for the construction of a movable, double bascule type, bicycle and pedestrian bridge in the municipality of Vilvoorde, north of Bruxelles.

The bridge section transported to the site by the Danser group, weighs 140 tons and measures 32 metres in length. It was brought to the construction site by the MS Tormenta cargo ship, and put in place on Saturday, June 4th, 2022.

This bridge over the Brussels Scheldt Sea Canal at the site of ‘De Molens’ will connect the centre of Vilvoorde with the domain “Drie Fonteinen”. It will also connect ‘Drie Fonteinen’ on the left bank, with the future residential area of ’Vier Fonteinen’ on the right bank. The bridge is part of the expansion of the recreational network ‘From basilica to basilica’: a recreational connection through the greenery that connects the Basilica of Our Lady of Troost in Vilvoorde with the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Grimbergen.

The companies Artes Roegiers, Artes Depret, Constructiewerkhuizen De Meyer, and Ney & Partners are collaborating on the design, construction and maintenance of this bridge. Once completed, it will measure approximately 115 metres in length, with a span of 63 metres. When closed, a sailing gabarit of 50 x 9.10 metres is insured. In open position, the vertical clearance is unlimited.

Completion of the bridge and the park on the left bank is scheduled for summer of 2022, while the construction that first began on October 19, 2020,  is scheduled to end in autumn of 2022.
