HEBO Maritiemservice unloads 10.500 T of steel in 10 days in Terneuzen

The heavy load carrier vessel, the Zhen Hua 34, has recently arrived from China, to the Port of Vlissingen, Flushing. The Zhen Hua 34 brought with it 4 lock doors & 2 bridges on board for the construction of a new lock at Terneuzen.

The current locks are causing bottlenecks for shipping, between the Western Scheldt and the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. Sassevaart contractors’ consortium is building the New Lock. This Rijkswaterstaat project is expected to be completed in 2023.

HEBO Maritiemservice was contracted by Sassevaart, in cooperation with Mammoet. Sassevaart contractors’ consortium consists of BAM (the Dutch and Belgian sister companies BAM Infra and BAM Contractors), DEME (DEME Infra Marine Contractors and Dredging International) and the Belgian construction company Algemene Aannemingen Van Laere.

HEBO Maritiemservice and Mammoet collaborated to unload 4 lock doors of 2000 tonnes each, and two bridges weighing 1250 tonnes, each from the vessel, and transport them via  barges to the marshalling area of Mammoet in Westdorpe, Terneuzen.
