Fracht Poland delivers transformer to Scotland

Fracht FWO Polska transported an 80-ton transformer and accessories. It was brought from the production plant in Poland to the Harting Rig substation of the Kype Muir Wind Farm in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.

The cargo was transported by Fracht FWO Polska via road train, which caused a slight issue when it came to the last section of the route in southern Scotland. Because Glassford Bridge had been downgraded by the local road administration, the road train was too heavy to safely cross. As such, one semi-trailer, loaded with the semi-trailer, crossed the bridge first, and the rest then followed. The last stage of the delivery was carried out by 2 ballast tractors. The transformer was then placed on its foundation.

The 88.4 MW onshore Kype Muir Wind Farm has been operational since May 2019, while the Kype Muir extension project is currently under construction. The extension project planned by Banks Renewables will increase the number of wind turbines from 26 to 41. This will provide an additional installed capacity of up to 67.2 MW, which could provide electricity for approximately 53,700 more homes, in addition to the 70,000 already being powered.
