The family-run medium-sized shipping company HS Schiffahrts has seen the first steel for its 7,000 dwt multipurpose vessels cut at the Cochin Shipyard (CSL), India.

The steel cutting marks the start of construction of six multipurpose vessels, out of a total of eight to be built for the family-run shipping company.

With the order, CSL also makes its entrance into the European shortsea shipping market, where these vessels are an integral part of the logistics network from North Sea ports to the south Mediterranean ports.

HS Schiffahrts MPPs

The vessels under construction at CSL are Ice Class units with an overall length of 110 metres and a breadth of 16.5 metres. All vessels are well suited for the transport of project cargo, heavy cargo, steel coils, containers, dry cargoes, timber, paper and bulk cargoes on a worldwide service trade.

The vessels will be built under DNV Ccassification with the flag of Portugal, meeting all the latest rule requirements.
