The Warwickshire-based truck transportation company, Allelys transported a 137-tonne Yankee dryer to a paper mill in Barrow-in-Furness, in Cumbria, England. 

This machine, used to remove excess moisture from pulp that is about to be converted into paper, measures 5.62 metres in diameter and 9 metres in length. The dryer was initially shipped from Karlstad, in Sweden, and delivered to Buccleuch Dock, in Barrow-in-Furness. There, it was lifted off the vessel using an Allelys LG1550 crane, before being placed on flattop trailers.

To transport the dryer the last 3 miles to the local paper mill, it was loaded onto 10 axle flat top trailers with a 16.6 te axle loading. In total, the formation measured 27 metres in length. Despite the short distance, the route required street furniture to be removed and a police escort, due to the dryer’s considerable size.
