PSA Breakbulk to build new project cargo terminal in Antwerp

PSA Breakbulk is investing 10 million euros for a new project cargo, heavy lift hub at the port of Antwerp-Bruges, in Belgium. The project aims at having a facility designed to serve as a one-stop shop for project cargo transportation services.

As the port of Antwerp-Bruges highlighted, the new hub will be at the Churchill Dock and will be “the largest lifting capacity on a permanent basis” at the port. Investments will focus on sustainable energy infrastructure, flooring for the heavy lift quay, and a new crane with a lifting capacity of 750 tons.

A new terminal for Ineos’ Project One

“The site will house the marshalling activities for the Ineos’ Project One for the next several years”, the port added. The company will use the facility to make ethylene and propylene, materials widely used in many sectors including the automotive industry, packaging, and the medical sector.

One of the first shipments at the terminal was the Baltic Eagle, a large power outlet on a five-story platform. This Baltic Eagle, as the port explained, will be used to combine energy from the wind turbines in the Baltic Sea to provide energy to half a billion households in Germany.
