Container handler PSA Belgium has recently welcomed an unusually heavy guest at its PSA Noordzee Terminal. The company said that the piece of breakbulk handled at the container terminal was actually the main drive of a tunnel boring machine from Herrenknecht.

In tunnel drilling, the main drive will make the cutter head rotate which on its turn will cut away the earth to make the necessary space for a tunnel.

This piece weighing 195 tons was loaded on the Ocean Network Express Treasure over 8 flats (2×4 sandwich). With the help of the floating crane Brabo by Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the piece was directly transferred from the barge to the container vessel for shipment to Hong Kong.

PSA Belgium highlighted the teamwork of its 11 dockers who made the operation possible, as they ensured the heavy piece was loaded and lashed in the shaft of the ONE Treasure.
