Finnish project logistics, heavy & oversized transport provider, Ahola Special, recently completed “quite an unusual and exciting” project. The company transported a historic airplane from Arlanda airport, Stockholm in Sweden to Turku, Finland.

The transported airplane was a Sud Aviation SE 210 Caravelle, a French jet airliner produced by Sud Aviation. This plane model was Finnair’s first jet airliner for passenger transport in the 1960s. The aircraft had been standing at Arlanda airport, waiting for its fate for a long time.

The Aviation Museum Society Finland found out about it and decided to try to save it. In 2021 they reached an agreement with the Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums to transfer the airplane’s possession to the Aviation Museum Society Finland.

The Aviation Museum Society brought the aircraft to Finland to restore it to its original appearance of 1963 and place it on public display. The aircraft will be displayed at Turku airport once the restoration is completed.

This challenging transport required lots of planning and preparation, and the transport required several trucks and trailers.
