SAL Heavy Lift completes biofuels trial on MV Calypso

MV Calypso trialing GoodFuels' biofuelsSAL Heavy Lift

SAL Heavy Lift, part of the Jumbo-SAL-Alliance, has recently completed a trial run using GoodFuels’ 100 percent pure biofuel. The trial was completed with MV Calypso using 145 tons of biofuel. The company said this is a small step in its ambition to become carbon neutral.

This successful trial is just one of the many actions SAL Heavy Lift are taking as part of the sustainability strategy, which has three core focus points: reducing carbon emissions, responsible consumption, and increasing sustainability awareness.

SAL Heavy Lift also said it worked closely with its alliance partner Jumbo Maritime who has years of experience with GoodFuels, to make this trial a success. To remind, Jumbo Maritime already trialed GoodFuels’ biofuels with its heavy lift vessel, Jumbo Jubilee.

The vessel completed a trip from Europe to and around the United States on GoodFuels’ biofuels, loaded three Liebherr cranes. Jumbo Jubilee bunkered biofuels in Rotterdam and crossed the Atlantic. These fuels are virtually free of sulphur oxides and deliver 80 to 90 percent well-to-exhaust CO2 reduction when compared to fossil fuel equivalents.
