Goldwind components delivered for Ukraine’s Ochakov wind project
Ukraine is making a significant push in decarbonising its energy mix with the development of onshore wind projects. Some of these projects include the Ochakov wind project and the Zophia wind project which, once completed will be one of the largest wind parks in Europe.
At the end of September, Beijing-bsed provider of complete wind power solutions, Goldwind, secured deals for the two Ukrainian projects, making a major breakthrough in the local market. Zophia project and Ochakov project are located in Zaporizhia and Ochakov of southern Ukraine, respectively, with a total installed capacity of 625.5 MW. The two projects are comprised of 75 units of GW 155-4.5MW and 60 units of GW 155-4.8MW smart wind turbines.
For the Ochakov project components, Goldwind turned to COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers. The shipper loaded components in the port of Taicang in China onboard the 29,600 dwt MPP vessel Da Ling at the end of November before heading to the south of Ukraine.
The vessel arrived in Ukraine at the end of December, according to the shipping data, however, the unloading of the components at the Port of Pivdennyy (ex Yuzhny) was only completed recently. The AIS data shows the vessel is still moored in Ukraine.
Valeriy Rokotyanskyy, Operating Management. Port Captain at COSCO Shipping (Europe) shared the images of the components’ arriving in Ukraine.
Both projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022. Once built and operational, they will have an annual production of about 2.2 TWh, enough to power over 1,100,000 Ukrainian households and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.7 million tons per year.
