The Suez Canal Authority has decided to increase the tolls for general cargo, multipurpose and heavy lift vessels transiting the canal.

In its latest navigation circular regarding the general cargo vessels, which include general cargo vessel, multipurpose vessels, heavy lift vessels, general cargo/heavy lift vessels and multipurpose/heavy lift vessels, the Canal authority noted it will charge a surcharge of 7 percent from normal transit dues for laden vessels traveling in both directions.

The decision has been made in line with the significant growth in global trade, the improvement of ships’ economics, the Suez Canal waterway development and the enhancement of the transit service, the Suez Canal Authority said.

The new tolls ware being imposed since the start of March.

Multipurpose vessels have not been the only ones to see the tolls increase. RoRo vessels, that are also often used for project cargo movement are seeing the same increase.
