Boskalis delivers Hollandse Kust Zuid Beta topside
Boskalis heavy transport vessel Mighty Servant 3 has completed the transport of Tennet’s Beta substation of the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm. Boskalis noted that the involvement in such projects is its way of taking an active role in enabling the energy transition in the Netherlands.
The 700 MW Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) Beta topside weighing 3,950-tonnes has been manufactured and loaded out at the Drydocks World Dubai at the end of February. he topside will form part of the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) grid connection that connects the offshore wind farm zone to the Dutch mainland at the Maasvlakte.
Located 20 kilometres off the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland, the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) wind farm zone occupies an area of 235.8 km2 and runs on a 1,400 MW of renewable energy. When fully operational in 2023, the wind farm zone will produce enough renewable energy to meet annual needs of more than two million households. Petrofac is responsible for the complete engineering, procurement, construction, and offshore installation of HKZ Alpha and HKZ Beta platforms.
Boskalis has also been hired by TenneT to install two 65-kilometre-long export cables that will connect the planned Hollandse Kust West Beta 700 MW offshore wind farm to TenneT’s onshore grid in the Netherlands as well as 9-kilometre-long 66kV interconnector cable.
