Roll Group’s S-Class heavy load carrier, Rolldock Sky has delivered 15 suction anchors to Darwin Port. The heavy units were loaded in Indonesia and are set to secure the floating production, storage and offload (FPSO) unit that will be part of Santos’ Barossa field project.

The first set of these essential components will be transferred to Subsea 7’s deepwater subsea operations vessel Seven Oceanic in a meticulously planned operation involving two trips from Darwin. This ship-to-ship transfer is completed by berthing the ships alongside each other and lifting the 160-tonne anchors across using Seven Oceanic’s onboard crane.

The second Darwin operation will occur in March when both Rolldock Sky and Seven Oceanic will berth at EAW in a similar configuration alongside each other to transfer the remaining seven anchors.

The Santos-operated Barossa Gas Project is an offshore gas and condensate project that proposes to provide a new source of gas to the existing Darwin liquified natural gas (DLNG) facility in the Northern Territory.

Project infrastructure would comprise a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility, a subsea production system, supporting in-field subsea infrastructure, the GEP and the DPD. Initial processing would occur at the FPSO facility, to separate the natural gas, water and condensate extracted from the Barossa field. The dry natural gas would be transported through the gas pipeline for onshore processing at the Darwin LNG facility. Condensate would be transferred from the FPSO to specialised tankers for export.
