Superyacht Jeff Bezos is in Rotterdam, De Hef not being dismantled
Oceanco’s new superyacht, Project Y721, is in Rotterdam. The superyacht, which is being built for Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, caused a lot of commotion earlier in the year. It was thought that due to the yacht’s high masts De Hef bridge, a local landmark which stretches across the Nieuwe Maas, would have to be dismantled to allow for transport from Alblasserdam. The ship, without its masts, chose another route and is now at the Greenport shipyard in the Eemhaven in Rotterdam.
The super yacht was transported by Royal Van der Wees, who reports that the ship did not pass De Hef. The transport company does not want to say more about the assignment. At the Greenport shipyard in Rotterdam, the masts can be placed on board the super yacht and it can reach the North Sea without passing under any bridges.
De Hef Commotion
The transport of Project Y721 has been the subject of much debate for some time now. To reach the North Sea for a trial run, a sailing route over the Nieuwe Maas was first mentioned. There are many bridges that can be opened over this course, but the De Hef can not be lifted without being dismantled. Although the drawbridge has been raised all the way, the new super yacht’s masts would not fit through it.
It has been unclear whether or not the ship would pass De Hef, actually, also known as the Koningshaven bridge. Rotterdam alderman Karremans had previously announced that Oceanco had not yet submitted an application for the bridge dismantling. The rumour alone caused threats at the address of Oceanco. On Facebook, an action was set up to throw eggs at the super yacht when it passed De Hef. But it did not come to that.
The world’s largest superyacht
The 127-metre superyacht will soon be the largest superyacht ever built. Oceanco delivered Infinity earlier this year. The 117 metre long super yacht is currently the largest super yacht built in the Netherlands. Infinity will have seven decks. On board, guests will have the opportunity to relax in the spa, sauna, gym or yoga studio.
