Heavy transport and haulage logistics specialist Collett & Sons recently had a busy week moving a tunnel boring machine (TBM) from Lutterworth to a new location in Newark, UK. 

The company’s heavy lift team deployed its Enerpac JS-125 hydraulic jack-up system for the job that required a total of five TBM components to be removed from the warehouse, with the three heaviest units moved by Collett & Sons.

The heaviest unit, weighing 120 tonnes, was skated into the centre and lifted by the 500 tonne capacity lift gantry. Once safely raised to the required height, the unit was loaded onto a 10-row drawbar trailer, the company noted.

The following two units, weighing 98 tonnes and 89 tonnes and measuring 4.7 metres in diameter followed the same process however, utilising the Holmatro 200 tonne capacity lightweight skidding system. The units were manoeuvred into position before being loaded onto a bespoke five-bed-five drawbar trailer built around the unit prior to lifting.

In accordance with the delivery schedule, all units were loaded and delivered to the new facility.
