In a move to expand its shipping logistics capacity, Felbermayr Holding has acquired 50 per cent of the Dutch inland shipping company, Rijnmond Logistics Beheer, based in Pappendrecht. The acquisition is effective from October 1, 2023.

Rijnmond Logistics is well established in the field of inland shipping as a full-service logistics service provider. In the future, it will therefore work closely with the Felbermayr unit Haeger & Schmidt Logistics and thus meet customer needs even better with increased flexibility.

As early as 2013, the internationally active full-service heavy lift logistics company Felbermayr took over the Duisburg-based company Haeger & Schmidt Logistics with core competencies in the areas of inland navigation, short sea, intermodal, port logistics as well as projects, shipping & forwarding and iCargo solutions. With 250 employees at twelve locations throughout Europe and a turnover of €250 million, this is one of the leading providers of logistics solutions in the European inland waterway network.

The expansion of Haeger & Schmidt

For Horst Felbermayr, CEO of the holding company of the same name, the acquisition of shares in Rijnmond Logistics represents a further logical step towards expansion in shipping logistics. “The strategic investment in Rijnmond Logistics and the close cooperation with Haeger & Schmidt Logistics considerably expand our service portfolio and strengthen our position in the industry enormous,” he said

For Heiko Brückner, CEO of Haeger & Schmidt Logistics (HSL), the investment is a vote of confidence for ten years of successful partnership with Felbermayr. “We are delighted with the decision to invest in Rijnmond Logistics and thus advance the expansion of the Haeger & Schmidt Group. The team led by Cees van Putten represents a significant addition for us,” he said.

Potential synergies appear for Rijnmond Logistics

“The partnership with Felbermayr and the close cooperation with Haeger & Schmidt Logistics open up new possibilities and synergies in order to offer our customers even better and more efficient solutions,” says Cees van Putten, Managing Director of Rijnmond Logistics.

The company is headquartered in Papendrecht, near Rotterdam, and operates a location in Schengen, Luxembourg. The company has a loading capacity of 79,000 tons with its owned and private and chartered vessels.

Rijnmond Logistics MD also noted that its customers will benefit from the HSL logistics centre in Duisburg with a heated steel hall, as well as the Felbermayr port terminals in Krefeld am Rhein, Linz on the Danube and in Vienna/Albern. Thanks to the Felbermayr philosophy of three transport routes, all locations have rail and road connections.
