Linde Engineering has hired Mammoet to do the heavy lift operations at the integrated manufacturing complex to be located and integrated with its existing gasification at Jurong Island, Singapore. The Dutch specialist will lift and install over a hundred components for the plant’s gasification facility upgrade.

The items to be installed included pipe racks, rotating equipment (turbines, generators), e-containers, columns and reactors. Overall, Mammoet employed a range of equipment to support this facility upgrade, including a CC8800-1 boom booster, CC2800-1, CKE2500 and 110 mobile crane, besides SPMTs, plus jacking and skidding systems.

Firstly, the team installed the main substation via a complex rigging method. Setup of this method took the team an entire day before installation of the main-substation took place.

18 axle-lines of double-wide SPMTs were then used for transportation of multiple cranes on the Jurong Island highway. The APAC regional team then assembled the CC8800-1 with boom booster using the assistance of a Demag specialist – this being a first such deployment for the region. The CC8800-1 with boom booster was then used install the 800-ton methanol wash column before jacking and skidding of the condenser unit took place.

Despite a shortage of manpower due to COVID-19 restrictions, Mammoet rose to the challenge. Furthermore, the use of the boom booster kit enhancement instead of the gantry crane cut costs and mobilisation time.
