SAL Heavy Lift had brought its 2008-built heavy lift multipurpose vessel Anne-Sofie back into action following a complete makeover. Among many things, as seen in the photos of it docking at Wallman Terminal in the Port of Hamburg, the vessel features a new design, inspired by the newbuild Orca series. 

Anne-Sofie now has a new Ballast Water Treatment System and Silicone Antifouling Coating, reducing emissions and fuel consumption. The vessel features a carrying capacity of 12,000 dwt and three cranes combinable up to 1,400 tons of lifting capacity.

The Orca class vessels, whose design cues Anne-Sofie has taken over, will set sail in 2024. These vessels will feature two 800-ton Liebherr cranes specifically designed for this ship type enabling it to handle cargo items weighing up to 1,600 tons in tandem. Orca class ships will also feature a hybrid propulsion system.

The first two vessels are already being built at the WuHu Shipyard in China with the first set to be delivered in July 2024.

Furthermore, the company has just been granted support by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure.
