The operator added that the transformer had previously been delivered on a vessel from Schiedam to a temporary loading quay. The the last kilometre, the transformer was loaded onto a specially equipped truck for transport to the destination.

A day prior to the delivery of the new transformer, the old defunct unit was removed from the station and transported along the same route to the unloading quay to be shipped for recycling. TenneT added that fortunatelly no injuries were reported in the incident.

“Together with transporter Wagenborg Nedlift, we are investigating the cause and the further approach,” TenneT said in a brief statement.

Louwsmeer station has been and will be expanded in the coming years as part of the grid reinforcement Westelijk Friesland, including with extra transformer capacity.
