Fred. Olsen Windcarrier completes first-ever decommissioning contract

Fred. Olsen WIndcarrier has completed its first-ever decommissioning contract with the removal of Perenco UK’s Tyne and Guinevere gas platforms, which were stationed in the Southern North Sea. 

The offshore work commenced in December 2019 and consisted of lifting the two topside and jacket structures onto the deck of Fred. Olsen’s jack-up vessel Blue Tern deck, where the structures were cut, rigged and fastened.

The Bleu Tern delivered the platforms to the Hoondert disposal facility in Vlissingen, the Netherlands where the actual disposal and recycling will take place.

Fred. Olsen worked in close cooperation with Ardent on the project. Ardent was responsible for the planning and engineering of the cutting, lifting, seafastening and offloading works, while Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has been responsible for vessel operation and overall management of the project.

“This is the first oil & gas decommissioning work done by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier and represents a new market segment for us”, says Henrik Mork, Head of Project Execution at Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.
