The world’s largest heavy lift vessel, Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit, has been contracted to transport and install two converter platforms for the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. Developed by transmission operator 50Hertz, Gennaker will be the biggest and most powerful wind farm in the Baltic Sea upon completion, boasting a production capacity of 900 MW.

Located 15 kilometres off the German coast near the Darß peninsula, the wind farm will rely on Pioneering Spirit’s capabilities to efficiently install the two converter platforms, known as OSS-DarB and OSS-Zingst. These platforms, including their supporting suction bucket jackets, will be delivered by the Dutch-Belgian HSI consortium – HSM Offshore Energy, Smulders and Iv.

Pioneering Spirit’s lifting power will enable it to complete the installation of both the jackets and the 61-metre-long, 34-metre-wide topsides in a single offshore campaign. This significantly reduces the time and complexity of offshore operations, ensuring a faster and safer installation process for the Gennaker wind farm.

This contract further strengthens Allseas’ position as a frontrunner in offshore wind farm construction. It is also showcasing Pioneering Spirit’s vital role in delivering critical infrastructure for Europe’s clean energy transition.
