Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers have secured a contract to transport the Marjan PK1 offshore platform. In addition, the company has secured the DP float-over installation contract, making it the largest project of its kind in the company’s history.

The company said it will employ two dynamic positioning semi-submersible vessels to deliver transportation and installation services for Saudi Aramco’s Marjan PK1 offshore platform. Notably, one of the vessels, a 65,000-DWT semi-submersible, has been purpose-built for this project.

The two ships are set to install six offshore platforms through dynamic positioning, with the heaviest weighing 24,000 tons. These platforms are scheduled to be produced in Indonesia, China, and the UAE before being installed in Saudi Arabia’s Marjan oil field in 2024.

Marjan project

The Marjan increment program is an integrated development project for oil, associated gas, non-associated gas and cap gas from the Marjan offshore field.

This development program includes an offshore gas oil separation plant, and 24 offshore oil, gas and water injection platforms.

The offshore oilfield development project aims to increase the Marjan field production by 300 MBCD of Arabian Medium Crude Oil, process 2.5 BSCFD of gas, and produce an additional 360 MBCD of C2+NGL.
