Felbermayr helps make power production greener in Poland
Best Logistics, a company belonging to the Felbermayr Group has played a role in the upgrade of a Polish combined heat and power plant in Zielona Gora. The company carried out the transport of a 215-ton gas turbine.
The power production facility of Zielona Gora is owned by PGE Energia Ciepła. In 2020 the company has signed a deal with GE Gas Power to replace one of the units commissioned at the power plant in 2004 with a newer model. The installation of the newer unit will help the power plant lower its emissions.
Over a period from the end of November until shortly before Christmas, Best Logistics moved the 215-ton gas turbine from the port of Neuf Brisach in the French Rhine to the city of Zielona Gora in Poland.

The dimensions, with the unit being 5.1 metres high, as well as the mass of the turbine, made a broken transport necessary. The entire transport project was therefore divided into several stages.
The first part of the transport was from the French port of Neuf Brisach to Szczecin by motor vessel Uranus. Here, the first passage of the loaded motor vessel was organised within the framework of the test operation of the new ship lift in Niederfinow. Thus, an additional ballast lift was avoided, which would have been necessary for the passage of the old lift.
