Logistics major DSV was recently tasked with moving project cargo from various locations to Lithuania. The company brought in BBC Saphire, the multipurpose heavy-lifter to load and transport the cargo.

The starting point for the six-breakbulk cargo operation was Jebel Ali, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where DSV loaded a total of 3,255 cubic metres of cargo weighing 450 tons. Setting sail from Jebel Ali, the vessel headed on a voyage to Marghera Port in Italy.

Upon our arrival at Marghera, the vessel loaded more cargo, some 1,250 cubic metres, weighing a total of 522 tons. The vessel deployed its own gear in a double banking operation to load the cargo before heading to Lithuania.

The first port of unloading was Lithuania’s port of Klaipeda where DSV unloaded cargo over a three-day period, followed by an additional two-day unloading operation in Bega. DSV then coordinated a 140-km road transport from the port of Klaipeda to the client site in Lithuania.

This journey posed several challenges, with deliveries often occurring on poorly lit and winding roads at night.
