Meriaura acquires new tonnage in 3,000-tonne range
PRESS RELEASE – VG-Shipping, a shipping company belonging to the Meriaura Group, has purchased a 3,000 dwt dry cargo vessel. The 86-metre long, ice-classed vessel will be chartered by Meriaura and managed by a German partner.
The 2011-built vessel will be named ‘Helena VG’. “In the current small tonnage operating in the Baltic Sea, the 3,000-tonne size range is rare, as very few new ships have been built in this size range for the last twenty years”, the company states.
In addition to the acquisition, Meriaura has also signed a time charter agreement for the 4,500-tonne vessel Nordersand until at least the summer. “We have responded to a capacity shortfall in both the 3,000 and 4,000-tonne categories. After the dry cargo market accelerated in the late autumn, we were unable to meet the growing transport demand, but now the matter has been rectified”, explains CEO Beppe Rosin of Meriaura.
The Helena VG (formerly Rochefort) has been handed over to VG-Shipping on March 1, 2021. The Nordersand will follow in week 10.
