Semi-sub vessel operator, GPO Heavylift recently completed the transport of a Maersk jackup rig to the Gulf of Mexico for New Fortress Energy.

In a brief statement, GPO said its vessel GPO Sapphire delivered the Maersk Gallant.

New Fortress Energy has agreed to buy three Maersk Drilling rigs in May this year in a $31 million all-cash transaction to push forward its Fast LNG project.

New Fortress Energy plans to produce 1.4 million tonnes per annum with these modular liquefaction facilities. The aim is to deliver LNG volumes to its growing customer base.

The Fast LNG design pairs the modular, midsize liquefaction technology with jack up rigs to enable a much lower cost and faster deployment schedule than today’s floating liquefaction vessels, according to New Fortress Energy.

The company has reached the final investment decision on the project in March this year.

Mærsk Gallant is an ultra-harsh environment jack-up rig that was delivered to Maersk in 1993. It was cold-stacked in Dundee, UK after ending its latest contract offshore the UK in 2017.
