Three reactors weighing 500 tonnes each produced by Walter Tosto reached the port of Ancona via barge from Ortona, in the Central Adriatic Sea.

The 500-tonne reactors produced by Walter Tosto and Belleli Energy CPE, each measure 44 metres in length and 10 metres in diameter. The components are to be installed in a chemical plant that produces ethylene and polyethene. Once installed they will double production capacity.

“The construction of these reactors was particularly complex, both in terms of the manufacturing sequence and for the internal tolerances requirements. We are proud to have successfully completed such an ambitious project while maintaining high-quality levels,” stated Andrea Mencarelli, Project Manager of Walter Tosto.

The cargo arrived by barge from the port of Ortona, travelling approximately 200 kilometres north along Italy’s east coast, to quay 22 in the port of Ancona. A barge-to-ship transfer then took place in Ancona on 2 November 2022. The cargo will soon sail towards its final destination. The Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority highlighted the project’s importance for the economy of both the Italian regions of Marche and Abruzzo.
