After keeping the final destination of the battered and dismantled bulker OS 35 undisclosed, Koole Contractors have brought it to DECOM Amsterdam.

The remains of the 184-metre-long bulk carrier have been brought to the location onboard the semi-submersible vessel Fjord. OS 35 will now be readied for environmentally friendly dismantling. To remind, OS 35 collided with LNG tanker Adam while manoeuvring to exit the Catalan Bay in Gibraltar, in August last year.

Koole loaded the complete wreck onto its semi-submersible barge Fjord as planned and engineered. The bow of the OS 35 was positioned in the right place using chain pullers on Koole pontoons and tugs were used to bring the much heavier stern into position. On July 3, the deck of the Fjord was above water again.

Following the retrieval of the vessel, Fjord was towed from Gibraltar to the locks of Ijmuiden Port of Amsterdam by AHT Seraya and it was then handed over to the leading tug Telstar which continued guidance through the locks and safely navigate the OS 35 and Fjord, ensuring a smooth passage to DECOM Amsterdam.

With the vessel moored, the decommissioning stage of the projects can begin with Koole’s onshore teams taking over the project.
