Towards the end of last month, SAL Heavy Lift completed the introduction of two semi-submersible deck carriers into its fleet with the delivery of MV Zhong Ren 122. This delivery came only days after the company brought on board the first deck carrier in the pair, the MV Zhong Ren 121.

The company, part of the Jumbo-SAL-Alliance, is now in charge of both vessels. Under a long-term time charter contract with Shanghai Salvage Company (SSC/COES), we will be managing and marketing MV Zhong Ren 121 and MV Zhong Ren 122 for at least two years.

The two semi-sub vessels, built in 2022, are equipped with DP2 systems and feasible for roll-on/roll-off cargo and floating-on/floating-off cargo.

Both vessels are 169 metres long and 39.8 metres wide, featuring DP2 technology, 26,000 dwt and the ability to carry floating cargo due to semi-submersible mode. The company said the pair will provide it with the opportunity to undertake cargo transportation and projects previously inconceivable with its existing fleet.

Following delivery, SAL will have the opportunity to utilise the two vessels for cargo transports from Asia to Europe. Afterwards, they will be deployed for an offshore wind farm project in the USA.

Once the wind farm project has been completed, SAL intends to extend the charter contracts with Shanghai Salvage for an additional two to three years.
