Global shipping major, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has recently broken a record for the longest breakbulk cargo it ever handled. The company’s project cargo team in MSC Vietnam was tasked with loading the record-breaking cargo in Vung Tau.

With deep local knowledge, the team of breakbulk experts in Vietnam delivered the cargo with an overall length of 26 metres to South Korea on MSC’s Sentosa-Shikra service that sails weekly. The cargo was effectively discharged for developing custom-designed Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) used in power generation.

“A very positive way to conclude 2023 and reinforce MSC’s commitment to Project Cargo for 2024 and beyond,” Ben Collins, MSC Global Project Cargo Manager said.

Towards the end of the year, MSC shipped 30 transformers to Julius Nyerere Hydro Electric Power Plant project in Tanzania from Mundra Port, India. The company completed the project in the face of chronic power challenges hindering Africa’s development ranging from insufficient generation capacity to low connectivity, poor reliability, and high costs.

MSC has transported multiple loads of transformers to Dar es Salaam, with a combined weight of 750 MT. These transformers, rated at 175MV and 220/132/11KV – 3PH, PT Tanesco, are crucial for Tanzania’s ambitious mission to develop five hydropower plant projects.
