COSCO Shipping Specialised Carriers has expanded semi-submersible fleet following the delivery of 80,000 dwt Xin Yao Hua.

The company named the vessel on January 19, at the Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI)’s yard in China’s Guangdong province. This newest vessel brings COSCO’s fleet of semi-submersible vessels to nine making it the world’s largest fleet of modern purpose-built semi-submersible heavy lift vessels.

The 255-metre long vessel has a 211-metre long and 57 metres wide cargo deck. It follows the delivery of Xiang An Kou in June last year. Xiang An Kou is part of COSCO’s fleet of vessels dedicated for the Canada LNG project. At the end of the year, Xiang An Kou transported two jack-ups from China to Abu Dhabi. The two jack-ups weigh 13,700 and 12,200 tons.
