Port Esbjerg’s heavy lift giant, the Liebherr LHM 800 crane, has sprung into action unloading an 80 ton box with a rotor unit. With the new LHM 800 in operation, Port Esbjerg becomes the only port in the western world that can do a tandem lift with two LHM 800 cranes, and thereby lifting 616 tonnes.

The port now has six Liebherr mobile cranes. Next winter, the collection will grow again when a new LHM 600 arrives at the port.

“We still have an ambition to be the leading wind port worldwide. The wind industry gets bigger and we handle larger components, and at the same time we will be busy at the port in the coming years. Also with handling heavy machinery within the ports other industries. Therefore, we need to be able to load two ships at the same time, and we can do that now,” says Dennis Jul Pedersen, director at Port Esbjerg.

To remind, the LHM 800 was delivered at the start of the month, shortly after the delivery of an LHM 600 failed due to an incident in the Kiel Canal when open deck carrier Meri hit the underside of the two Holtenau high bridges while in transit to Esbjerg.
