With the growth in the number of wind farms, as well as special transport hubs, nacelles, tower sections and blades, requirements for specialist transport solutions are also growing.

Portuguese special transport company, LASO Transportes has recently responded to the growing requirements with the addition of three new combinations including wind blade adapters with self-steering dollies. The equipment was delivered by Faymonville Group.

Such a combination increases agility compared to extendable vehicles.

According to Faymonville, the combinations will be put to the test in a maiden voyage in France, where rotor blades type Nordex NR74.5 with a length over 70 metres are about to be transported over 100 kilometres from the port to the installation site. The 1,700 mm high stroke of the blade adapters enables the operator to lift the blade if needed and guide it over obstacles.

A universal interface allows to pick up blades from different manufacturers in combination with a series of specialised accessories.
