German freight forwarding and heavy transport exports, DAKO Worldwide Transport and Bohnet, recently joined forces to move reactors from Hamburg to Leuna. Both units were delivered to the Chemical Park Leuna.

DAKO Worldwide Transport received the two units weighing 142.5 tons each from under hook in Hamburg, following their delivery from China. From Hamburg, the company deployed a barge to ship the two reactors via the river Elbe to the port of Aken. There, both units were transloaded onto hydraulic trailers.

In partnership with Bohnet, DAKO then transported the transformers from Aken some 90 kilometres to Leuna. The transport was executed within over two nights.

The transport was not straightforward as space constrictions and height obstacles at the job site presented a challenge. The two units had to be re-loaded onto a configuration with a lowbed to allow for manoeuvring and transport up to the final place of erection.
