Hansa Meyer Global Transport’s Bremen unit was nominated by SMS Group to ship equipment for a state-of-the-art aluminium flat rolling mill to the United States. The company said it will deliver approximately 55,000 freight tons from worldwide suppliers up to DAP Site. 

Hansa Meyer’s scope starts at FCA / FOB port of shipment with cargoes originating from Europe, Turkey, Korea, India, Vietnam, and Mexico. The deliveries cover the hot strip mill, two tandem cold mills, a single-stand cold rolling mill, and two high-bay storage systems.

The project includes 26 heavy lift units, from 50 tons up to 187-ton unit weight, which will be shipped in several part shipments from Europe and Korea up to POD New Orleans, where Hansa Meyer RoliProjects will take over for delivery to Site in Columbus.

Hansa Meyer’s operations started immediately to meet the requirements of SMS Group. The group was contracted by Steel Dynamics, a North American steel producer and metals recycler, to supply the new state-of-the-art aluminium flat rolling mill for Aluminum Dynamics, a joint venture of Steel Dynamics, to be built in Columbus, Mississippi. SMS will supply the integrated hot and cold rolling complex for a production capacity of 650,000 metric tons of aluminium strip per year, mainly for applications in the sustainable beverage packaging, automotive, and common alloy markets.
