Unusual transports are part of every project logistics company’s routine operations, and so was the movement of a touring boat over the German roads. The special transport was affected by low water levels and construction works on German motorways.

Additionally, it is well-known that heavy transport permit legislation in Germany is the most complex system in Europe, which often causes delays when it comes to moving oversized cargo through the country. Autobahn GmbH handles all the permits for heavy and oversized transport, however, the volume of incoming requests means the wait times for green light are quite long.

With all the obstacles ahead, Felbermayr managed to move a 77-tonne and 32-metre-long touring boat on schedule. The company said that, instead of lifting the vessel out of the water in Dresden, as planned, it was transferred to a heavy-duty modular combination in Vahldorf.

The route, 375 kilometers in length was completed in two nights and the all-electric vessel was lowered into the water in Lake Berzdorf by a 200-ton crane. The route did include a few motorway kilometres, however, Felbermayr said that good relationships with Autobahn GmbH meant a suitable solution and the right permits were in place.
