Core Shipping, a company based in Istanbul, recently went to great lengths to ensure that all of its clients received their cargo on time. During a recent delivery, the company was tasked with shipping a mix of project cargo from the Mediterranean to several high-profile clients in West Africa.

While the company operates the Si Osiris, a multipurpose vessel with an 8,000 dwt, tween deck, equipped with two 150-ton cranes on a semi-liner service, it cooperated with Uniatlantico to operate the MV Unisun, a 2009-built MPP, with about 9,750 for this specific job.

The cargo that had to be transported consisted of four LPG tanks and accessories, totalling 231 tons, with the heaviest unit weighing 54 tons. The cargo was loaded at the Port of Martas in mid-August before the vessel headed to the Port of Derince to load 171 tons of pipe, 12 transformers and accessories with a total weight of 610 tons. The two heaviest units weighed 66 tons each.

Also at Derince, Unisun loaded a total of 22×40 ft IMO containers and headed to Bulgaria’s port of Burgas where it added seven 20 ft containers and set course for Africa.

“With our experience, loading and discharging cargoes in multiple ports was not an issue. The challenge was to arrange the stowage plan that would ensure the vessel’s stability during the voyage. There was no heavy cargo at the bottom, but thanks to our port captain and master of the vessel everything was done perfectly,” says Gökhan Gülcü, chartering manager at Core Shipping.

For this specific job, Core Shipping worked together with the likes of Uniatlantico, Kestrel, and other major names to deliver the cargo to high-profile contractors busy across several projects in West Africa.

“It is a milestone of sorts for us as this was our first cooperation with owners Uniatlantico,” Gökhan said, adding “We booked the transformers for the NLNG Train 7 project on Bonny Island with our customer Fagioli, and in cooperation with our general agent Kestrel, Italy. The LPG tanks were booked with another high-profile client. We are proud of the fixtures as they are a result of our good services. It also reflects our growing reputation that we worked hard to build over the recent years.”
