Sai Maritime coordinates heavy lifts and project cargo delivery in India
Sai Maritime recently coordinated an important project cargo movement from Mumbai to Kolkatta for Total Movements. The carrier for the job was the JSI Alliance and its multipurpose heavy-lifter MV Anna. Sai Maritime is the JSI Alliance’s agent in India.
“Rough seas and swell, lengthy conversion procedures and revision in lifting plans were just some of the challenges that we faced during the loading operations, however thanks to the wonderful co-operation and support shared between all parties, the issues were sorted out,” says Rukhsana Vohra Mithani, Director of Sai Maritime.
The project involved five massive components ranging from 243 to 711 metric tons. Close collaboration between SAL Engineering and Total Movement’s engineering teams proved to be the key to achieving safe loading and discharge.
The two teams worked in tandem, meticulously considering every detail to eliminate potential miscalculations and unforeseen circumstances. This collaborative approach ensured the safe handling of these enormous cargo pieces, demonstrating the importance of effective teamwork in complex heavy lift operations.
Precise planning by TOTAL’s inland logistics team played a critical role in achieving a rapid turnaround for the vessel discharge. Their efforts ensured that barges were positioned alongside the vessel upon arrival, ready to efficiently receive the oversized cargo. This proactive approach significantly reduced turnaround time, highlighting the importance of strategic planning in optimising port operations.
