The Danish energy giant Ørsted has begun construction of the maintenance base for the Borssele 1 and 2 wind farms in Vlissingen’s outer harbour. Both wind farms will be built and maintained from this base. The wind farms will have a combined energy generation capacity of 752 MW and will be situated 23 km off the coast. When the offshore wind farms are ready, the base will employ between 50 and 100 people.

Wind farms

The construction company Cordeel will build the maintenance base, a sustainable building full of solar panels that will generate more electricity than it consumes. The building will have an area of 2,100 square metres. Among other things, the base will be used to coordinate the construction of the wind farms and the offshore maintenance work, prepare offshore activities and crew transport boats and perform minor mechanical work. There will also be jetties for four crew transport boats.

Ørsted previously signed an agreement with North Sea Port for the location of the maintenance base. North Sea Port has excellent infrastructure in Vlissingen and a lot of experience in the field of offshore wind energy.
