DSV Panalpina signs major project logistics deal with Vestas

DSV Panalpina has signed a major logistics agreement with Vestas to execute and manage its general freight and special project transportation. The partnership aims to simplify Vestas’ global transportation set-up and help the company to efficiently scale its business, DSV Panalpina states.

The partnership seeks to reap the advantages of combining DSV Panalpina’s global footprint with Vestas’ volume and experience in special project transportation, stemming from delivering and installing more than 70,000 wind turbines in 80 countries, the companies state.

The combination of Vestas’ volume and knowledge with DSV Panalpina’s broader logistics expertise and scale is expected to generate economies of scale and efficiencies for both companies. With turbine components getting bigger and wind farms increasingly being built in remote locations, these scale advantages are important for Vestas in order to stay successful and competitive in the growing wind energy market.

“Combined with the increasing size of wind turbines, the global demand for wind energy is making logistics and transportation more complicated and we, therefore, must scale our business efficiently”, says Henrik Andersen, Vestas Group President and CEO.

Large volume

For DSV, the agreement adds substantial volume to its portfolio. As one of the largest wind turbine manufacturers in the world, Vestas has around 500,000 inbound shipments a year and uses more than 900 vessels annually.

Following the announcement of Vestas’ ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030, the partnership also includes a mutual commitment to reduce and eliminate CO2 emissions related to transport and logistics.
