Altius transports large heat exchangers from Italy to Scotland

PRESS RELEASE – Altius has organized the shipment of two 122-tonne heat exchangers plus accessories from the OVS Vertova manufacturing plant in Northern Italy to the Ineos Refinery located in Grangemouth, Scotland.

The cargo consisted of two main units weighing 122 tonnes each and measuring over 22 metres long, 3.35 metres wide and 3.5 metres tall.

The units were transported from Vertova to the Valdaro (Mantova) river port by road and then loaded onto a barge because the convoys’ weight and dimensions restricted it from driving to the port of Marghera, where the cargo would be transferred onto an ocean-going vessel. Enroute from Vertova to Mantova, the convoy encountered several manoeuvring difficulties, passing narrow and winding mountain roads.

Once the cargo was loaded onto the barge at Valdaro, it was shipped to Marghera where the cargo was transferred onto the geared multipurpose vessel Atlantic Dawn of Ocean 7 Projects.

In Grangemouth, the vessel discharged the cargo onto a special semi-trailer which transported the units to the Ineos Refinery in Grangemouth.
