Wallenius Wilhelmsen starts calling Arica to target mining market

PRESS RELEASE – Targeting the local mining industry, Wallenius Wilhelmsen will start monthly calls in Arica port in Chile. “Within easy reach of Southern Peru’s mining hub, the Chilean port is strategically located for shipments of mining equipment, making it a valuable addition to our service from North to South America”, the ro/ro carrier states.

“Arica port’s privileged position close to the Peruvian mining sector offers another important option to the South America market, opening up an alternative route for customers shipping products for this sector,” says Ana Paula Quaresma, VP sales for Wallenius Wilhelmsen in South America.

According to the carrier, Arica is less congested than other ports located further south, meaning cargo moves quickly, which in turn helps to improve time to market.

Located close to the Bolivian border, Arica port reduces the inland distance to the key markets of La Paz, El Alto and Cochabamba and is well-positioned for those looking to expand their reach in the Bolivian market and beyond. The port’s on-site Bolivian customs office is an added benefit.

In addition, the implementation of Shore Tension Technology at the port means it’s less affected by heavy swells, which is one of the biggest challenges preventing our vessels from berthing in some Chilean ports.

The first calls are planned for early May.
