Volga Dnepr relaunches first AN124 aircraft

The first AN124 from Volga-Dnepr has taken off again after about a month of inactivity. Now that technical checks on the first aircraft have been completed, the rest of the AN124 fleet will follow soon, the company said.

The company grounded its fleet after one of its eight heavy cargo planes had to make an emergency landing due to engine problems in November.

Volga-Dnepr says it has taken a thorough look at relaunching the AN124 operations to ensure the highest flight safety. The company also said it is discussing the return and availability of the aircraft with its customers individually and will keep the market informed of the situation.

The AN124s are used to transport cargoes with loads of up to 150 tonnes. They are used both for charter work and auxiliary flights and regularly transport heavy parts like turbines, locomotives or sailing ships. The aircraft are also hired to move heavy military equipment.
